Tanna Island Coffee's first priority is to be beyond fairtrade. We act upon our famers behalves, ensuring they can continue to succeed in what they do best, grow coffee.
Tanna Island Coffee is grown in the rich tropical soils of the still-active Yasur Volcano, on the island of Tanna in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu. The unique climatic and fertile soil conditions of Tanna Island provides an excellent environment for the production of a pure Organic Arabica Coffee. The discerning coffee drinker will appreciate that Tanna Island Coffee exhibits some wonderful aromatics, is full-bodied with a light start and a pleasant nutty flavour that finishes with a smooth, non-bitter after-taste.

The Coffee

Handpicked and processed by the small holder farmers and the coffee farmers Co-op this coffee typifies the symbiotic relationship between a subsistence grower and the cash crop needs of these wonderfully Kustom people. The soils are high in pot ash and allow any food coffee on Tanna to exhibit wonderful smooth full bodied nutty chocolate flavours with no after bitter taste.

History and facts

The first coffee recorded on Tanna was in 1852. Brought from New Caledonia, a variety of coffee called Bourbon was planted at Port Resolution. Many years of adversity has seen the coffee plantations on Tanna boast the well producing and healthy plants we know today.

Tanna Island

Tanna Island lays to similar latitude to Fiji and Townsville and placed at the southern latitude of the Vanuatu islands. Heavily influenced by the Capricorn South East Trade winds and Mt Yasur highly fertile ash emissions, Tanna Island is a Garden of Eden for its local people.
